For the love of animals
About Us
In the late 80’s, Roberto Rodriguez walked into Pet Land in Brooklyn to help a friend shop for pet supplies. On a whim, he filled out an application to work at the store. Little did he know, Roberto would spend next 25 years working at the shop. During this time - fueled by a passion for animals - Rob acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience with a variety of pets. After the shop’s owner succumbed to cancer, Pet Land closed its doors and Rob was left trying to figure out what to do. After a short stint working for Harley Davidson, Rob’s daughter Suheily got sick with cancer. Unfortunately she too died.
Reflecting on her life, and thinking of how much she loved animals, Rob decided to open up his own pet shop as a memorial to his beloved daughter Suheily. With the help of his wife, daughters and son in law, Suheily’s Pet’s was becoming a reality. As fate would have it, just as they were about to open the new shop, cancer reared its ugly head once more. This time it was Rob himself who was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the physical, emotional and financial strain, the Rodriguez family forged ahead and worked hard to keep the store afloat throughout COVID and continue to do so to this day.
Walk into Suheilys and you will be greeted by Rob or his wife who will be happy to help you with all of your pet needs. If you’re lucky, you might even catch Rob rocking out on guitar behind the counter. Browse the aisles and check out all of the different aquatic animals (both fresh and salt water), birds, reptiles and more. It’s almost like a trip to a mini zoo. With the help of a friendly staff, you can be sure to leave Suheilys feeling confident in your purchases.
